THE CARSON VALLEY POPS

This Douglas County community orchestra annually performs Spring, Fourth of July,  Fall, and Winter concerts.  The Carson Valley Pops is an all-volunteer, non-profit orchestra.  The Pops is supported by donations from Douglas County, concert patrons, local business donations, and program advertising.


KENNETH GOFF is an accomplished conductor and educator, and serves as the Musical Director for the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra. With 25 years of teaching experience, Ken holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Liberty University, a Master’s Degree from Southern Oregon University and a PhD in Music Education with an Emphasis in Instrumental Conducting from Florida State University. His scholarly contributions include research publications in state, national, and international music journals. Ken’s global perspective is enriched by his educational visits to Japan and the Bahamas. He has been a guest conductor across the United States, the Caribbean, and Japan.

Previously, Ken served as a Professor of Music Education at the University of Arkansas – Little Rock. In addition to his conducting duties, he is an active French Horn player in the area. Outside of music, Ken is an avid hiker, often exploring trails with his Alaskan Malamute, Sullivan. He is married to Angela Goff, the band and choir director at Pau Wa Lu Middle School, and is a proud father to his son, Josh.

CYNTHIA LEE MILES, CONCERTMASTER, began performing with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra in 2002. Lee grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and has been listening to music or playing it for as long as she can remember. She graduated from Utah State University where she played in the college orchestra. Lee also attended Southern Illinois University. For several years Lee played with the Carson Valley Sinfonia under the direction of John O’Neill. In addition to playing in the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra, she performs with the Carson City Symphony, the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra (TOCCATA) and plays in musical ensembles. Lee is a retired elementary school teacher after 31 years. In her free time she enjoys hiking, biking, and traveling.
